About Me

Hello, I’m Laurens, and I’m currently making a bicycle trip to I-don’t-know-where.

The summer of 2010, after finishing university, I decided to make a bike trip to the European Juggling Convention in Joensuu, Finland. That’s how I got hooked to this – for me at least – perfect way of travelling. Cycling through astonishing landscapes, camping wherever the day brings me, cooking and reading next to a crackling fire, etc…

Last summer I hit the saddle again, this time without destination or time limit. After cycling around Spain and Portugal the weather was still rather enjoyable, so I decided to follow the south of Europe, and arrived in Istanbul the beginning of December. There I’ve met a bunch of transcontinental cyclists in the hostel where I stayed and realized I didn’t want to stop standing with one foot in Asia. But unlike those crazy people I didn’t feel like cycling through the east of Turkey in the middle of the winter, I’d already suffered those last two weeks and the days were too short for me to enjoy it.  So it was the perfect time for a 3 month break, to reload my social battery, live in a house for a while, and upgrade my equipment for the sequel of the journey.

This blog is created under slight pressure and I have no idea how this will end. I’m not setting any goals because I’m the kind of person who doesn’t like to give up, even if that would mean several years of suffering. I’ll cycle wherever I feel like going and will quit whenever I don’t enjoy it any more, but it doesn’t look like that will happen in the near future. Being completely broke is another possible reason to call it a trip of course.

If for some reason this blog dies, it will probably be due to writing motivation problems…
